Our lives have changed in ways we couldn’t have imagined. We’ve been left feeling anxious and confused. It’s important to acknowledge what we’re feeling. An ancient poet once wrote, “I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. When I was in distress, I sought the Lord.” (Ps. 77:1-2) God is not offended when we tell him how we’re feeling. He doesn’t tell us to stop whining or threaten to crush us when we complain.Yet we’re also reminded to be people of hope.

Hope is not wishful thinking, it doesn’t deny our difficulties. Instead hope springs from our trust and confidence that God is for us. He entered our world (the Christmas story) and walks with us, comforting us along the way. And we know that God has a plan, one that began when Jesus rose from the dead (the Easter story) and will be fully realized when Jesus returns and makes all things right. In the midst of all that has changed, we must be remember that God is still in charge and the tomb is still empty.

Our lives have been disrupted...and yet we are not powerless. One of the Bible’s consistent messages is that growth comes in times of difficulty and suffering produces character. So embrace this as a season of growth. Be intentional. Deal with lingering challenges. Enjoy your family. Grow a friendship. In these ways we will see how God can indeed use “all things,” even difficult things, “for the good of those who love him.” (Romans 8:28)
