Christmas Offering

Give to the Project   Learn more about Every Meal

Every year, City Church has the privilege of choosing a worthy organization to support through its Christmas Offering project. This year, we are partnering with Every Meal, a local organization fighting child hunger through community and school partnerships.

More than 300,000 children in Minnesota live with food insecurity. Every Meal fights child hunger by focusing on filling the food gaps children face on weekends, extended breaks, and summer when they’re not able to access school meal programs. When they don’t have consistent access to enough food, the risk of hunger is very real. Through their multiple food gap programs, Every Meal provides children and families experiencing food insecurity with access to good food.

Every Meal began in 2010 as ministry of Mill City Church (Converge) by providing weekend food bags to one kindergarten classroom at Sheridan Elementary in Northeast Minneapolis. In 2013 they became a non-profit organization and to date they provide meals to over 10,000 children across 400 locations in the Twin Cities region.
564 of these children reside in south Minneapolis attending schools near City Church.

The Project: Give the Gift of Food

In the past year, Every Meal has seen a 34% increase in kids signing up to receive food support which exceeded their expected 17% increase. Because of this increase Every Meal is facing a funding shortfall that threatens to disrupt its meal program during winter break. To address this need, we propose to raise $12,000 for the Give the Gift of Food project.

Impact of the Project
By supporting the "Give the Gift of Food" project, City Church will make a direct and significant impact on the lives of 564 children in our community. These meals will not only provide sustenance but also alleviate the stress and anxiety associated with food insecurity, allowing children to focus on their education and personal development.

Financial Breakdown
Target Fundraising Goal: $12,000
Cost per Meal Bag: $6
Meal Bag Contents: 3.5 meals
Total Meals Provided: 7,000 meals

*Our contributions would be part of a broader holiday fundraising goal of providing 336,000 meals for students in need over the holiday break. If the funding were to surpass the goal for winter break it would be used for future funding of meals.

Future Opportunity
When it comes to local ministry the hope is that we would not simply be providing financial assistance, but also making an impact relationally. We hope that this offering would be the first step into a possible future partnership that would include a focus on building relationships.
