J-Term

Are you new to the Christian faith? Maybe not there quite yet and you still have some questions? Or maybe you have a strong Christian faith but don’t know how to talk about some of the fundamentals with your non-Christian friends? This J-Term, City Church’s Sunday Morning Communities will be hosting Dr. David K. Clark who will talk about 4 Big Questions of the Christian Faith.

Each week during Sunday Morning Communities (10:45-11:45am) Dr. Clark will delve into one of the Big Questions. His lecture style is engaging and interactive and will include time for discussion in smaller groups.

January 7th – Question 1: Is Scripture reliable? What are some reasons to see the Bible as reliable and trustworthy if you are not a Christian?

January 14th – Question 2: How can science and Christianity be reconciled? How do we help people understand Christianity is actually in support of (not opposed) to science?

January 21st – Question 3: Do all religions teach the same thing? To what extent does Christianity differ from other religions? How do we handle the claim that Christianity is the Way, the Truth, and the Life?

January 28th – Question 4: What is the meaning of Jesus’ death? What did Jesus actually accomplish on the cross? What are the implications of this on how we think about the church's role in the world?

Dr. Clark and his family moved to Minnesota in 1988 to begin teaching theology, apologetics, and ethics at Bethel Seminary. Over the years, he has served as a professor, a pastor, vice president and dean of Bethel Seminary, and provost of Bethel University. His academic discipline is philosophy of religion. He is known internationally for his work in theological and apologetic method. He is an expert on the problem of evil, theory of knowledge, and science and theology. His approach to these topics emphasizes dialogue: he invites people to learn how to ground their faith perspectives with solid critical reasoning. And, in this day of uncivil discourse, he challenges people to share the Gospel by first listening to others, then serving, and then sharing the reasons for faith in the context of respectful personal relationships.

Dr. Clark also leads a ministry called Damascus Road Collaborative that helps pastors and their church boards to develop strong, Christ-centered, Bible-based, churches that invite people into a relationship with Jesus Christ, transform and develop the faith of believers, and purposefully impact the world through lives of service and love.

Programming for children (birth - 5th grade) will be available during this series on the Lower Level, as it is for all Sunday Morning Communities throughout the school year. Students (6th-12th grade) will join the sessions with Dr. Clark! Questions? Contact Megan Jachim.

We hope you join us for this exciting J-Term series, part of Sunday Morning Communities. This event is free, open to City Church attenders, friends, and members of the community. See you in January!
